Marc Marquez MotoGP Injury Update: Unlikely for Portugal GP (2025)

A worrying update for MotoGP fans: the sport's medical director, Angel Charte, has cast doubt on Marc Marquez's chances of making a swift return to the track. With the Portuguese Grand Prix looming, Charte believes it's "quite difficult" for the injured Marquez to participate.

Marquez's absence from the Australia-Malaysia double header was confirmed after a collision with Marco Bezzecchi in Indonesia resulted in a fracture to his right shoulder. The Ducati rider's initial plan was to avoid surgery and opt for conservative recovery, but further tests led to a change of heart.

Speaking ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Dr. Charte provided an update on Marquez's condition. He explained that the world champion's injury was deemed unstable, prompting the decision to undergo surgery to stabilize the affected area. Marquez has since been discharged and is now resting, with his recovery timeline yet to be determined.

"Last week's check-up revealed the need for immediate action," Charte said. "Marc's injury required a more secure approach, and the medical team wisely opted for surgery."

The question on everyone's mind: when will Marquez be back on the bike? With no rush for him to return, given his recent ninth world title win in Japan, the focus is on ensuring a full recovery. However, Charte's assessment suggests that the Portuguese GP on November 9th might come too soon.

"I think Australia, Malaysia, and Portugal are ambitious targets," Charte said. "We need to treat this injury with caution to avoid any long-term issues."

If Marquez misses the Portuguese round, his earliest return would be the season finale in Valencia on November 16th. This race will be followed by the traditional post-season test, where manufacturers will unveil their 2026 prototypes for the first time.

So, MotoGP fans, what are your thoughts on Marquez's situation? Do you think he'll make a miraculous recovery in time for Portugal, or will we have to wait until Valencia to see him back in action? Share your predictions and opinions in the comments below!
