Shane Lowry hits a bogey while Rory gets up and down on 18 to finish even. Three-over-par back nine for McIlroy.

Hard to fathom

When Rory McIlroy hit his 4 iron on the 15th to clear the water it looked like he would chip and putt his way to -5 and two shots behind Scottie Scheffler, instead he hit two doubles in the last three holes.

It was one of the best rounds McIlroy had put together at this course and a complete capitulation.

Another McIlroy Double Bogey

After such an impressive opening round, McIlroy three putts for his second double bogey in three holes. He falls to level par.

Lowry sits-1

Poor shot from McIlroy as he flies the 17th green. If he gives away another here he'll be very disappointed. Lowry is safely in for his par on 16 and still -1.

McIlroy with a par on the 16th to steady himself after the double. Lowry makes par on 15 to stay -1.

Double Bogey for McIlroy

That'll be a tough one to stomach. McIlroy does the hard work by hitting a stalking 4 iron over the water on 15 but puts too much on his chip and sees it go into the water. He opts to pitch from the far side and it's not a great approach. Two putts and a double bogey means McIlroy is back to -2.

McIlroy hits the water

It's a tricky little chip for McIlroy after going long on 15. Patrick Cantlay put a couple of balls into the water from a similar position.

McIlroy doesn't judge it well and sees the ball roll into the water.

A final hole bogey leaves Justin Rose -7, Rory McIlroy will have the par five 15th next to give him a good birdie chance to close the gap while Shane Lowry sits at -1 with an upcoming birdie chance

McIlroy narrowly misses a birdie putt, it would have put him solo second. Justin Rose looks like he'll drop a shot and finish -7 but don't write him off making a par putt on 18.
