The 2022 China International Trade Fair for Services (CIFTIS) has been held for the past six days in Beijing at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park, both of which hosted the Winter Olympics and Paralympics earlier this year.
Near the Big Air Shougang at the Park, a Beijing 2022 Olympic venue redeveloped from a steel mill, the CIFTIS 2022 Sports Services Exhibition was opened to showcase the sports industry’s cutting-edge technologies, applications and products .
“We always knew of the tremendous will, ability and commitment that we faced with the organizers in China,” said Christophe Dubi, executive director of the Olympic Games of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said by video link during a CIFTIS sports conference, adding that China will contribute more to the Olympics and the global sports industry.
The China National Convention Center, one of the venues of CIFTIS 2022, served as the main media center during the 2022 Winter Olympics. the photos of the highlights of the Games and the CIFTIS panels jointly decorate the site.
It is also the first time that the Center has hosted an exhibition after the Games. “What we see is Beijing’s commitment to maintaining this long-term effect by using sport as a catalyst for sustainable development,” said Marie Sallois, IOC Corporate and Sustainable Development Director.
“The Games which have just been organized have once again been exceptional. Developing skills in winter sports has always been identified as a challenge, but also as a tremendous opportunity. This exhibition allows global companies to demonstrate their capabilities in winter sports, especially for innovation,” said Dubi.
Zhang Li, vice president of China branch of IDG Capital, organizer of the sports services section of CIFTIS, sees the development of the industry in the world.
“Before the Beijing Winter Olympics, I knew a world-leading snowboard company in Europe that didn’t pay much attention to the Chinese market. The company manager didn’t know China and preferred the Chinese market. strong European. But as China presented an outstanding Winter Games, the company quickly adjusted its strategy and sent a team to China,” recalls Zhang.
While more than 300 million Chinese have participated in winter sports since the 2022 Games were awarded, a growing number of people are expected to have fun on ice and snow in the future.
“Technology development enables a wider range of participation, boosting the winter sports industry,” Zhang said.
Wearing AR/VR equipment on display at the CIFTIS sports exhibition, visitors can “experience” the thrill of winter sports such as ski jumping and downhill skiing. A pair of tension adjustable ski boots helps skiers feel comfortable on different snow fields.
“Thanks to artificial intelligent technologies, ski boots can receive data from sensors capable of detecting the altitude, the terrain and the hardness of the snow. Then the ski boots will adjust the tension accordingly,” said exhibitor Zhang Andong.
In addition, technologies used during the Olympics can also be found at the CIFTIS sports exhibition, including an intelligent winter sports training system, the online cloud digital museum of the Winter Olympics and a 360 degree multicam replay free viewing angle system.
Sports-related technologies have been developed at a rapid rate over the past few years and will continue to serve the public, insiders say.
“According to our survey, many exhibitors have signed cooperation projects with each other or with the government. CIFTIS should provide a platform cultivating more results,” Zhang said.
CIFTIS 2022 attracted more than 400 Global Fortune 500 companies and industry-leading companies to attend the show offline. In the sports section, more than 100 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and regions presented their products on the site, including Austria, Italy, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
At the sports exhibition, Italian snowmaking equipment and Austrian ropeways that were showcased during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics always attracted attention.
Andreas Riecken, Austrian Ambassador to China, said right next to a cable car: “China is Austria’s partner in the development of winter sports. Our cooperation should go both ways, with Chinese coming to Austria and Austrians visiting China. China’s winter sports industry will be even better in the future, and many people will appreciate the process.”
Nico Schiettekatte, counselor for health, welfare and sports at the Dutch embassy in China, also expressed his wish to strengthen cooperation between the two nations.
“I hope that China and the Netherlands can strengthen their cooperation in the ice and snow industry. Dutch companies have already invested in the ice rinks in Beijing and Shanghai. It is always great to allow more young people to participate in winter sports,” he said. said.
“The world knows that ice and snow are never too far away thanks to the very strong vision of the Chinese authorities and their ability to organize the Games,” noted Dubi, adding that the country is always an exciting destination on the map. of the world of the Olympic Games. .
